Pao Medino was thrilled with his fearless performance that propelled University of Santo Tomas to their second championship title in the UAAP Boys’ Volleyball Tournament.
“All out po talaga, ‘yun po yung mindset namin yesterday like, ‘yung two days na preparation po coming to this game two, ‘yun po ‘yung mindset namin na all out na po talaga,” said Medino.
Medino played a pivotal role in Game 2 of the Finals series against defending champions, National University Nazareth School, scoring 21 crucial points from 16 attacks, four blocks, and one service ace.
“Siguro ‘yung mindset ko po talaga, kasi senior na po ako na kailangan ako yung dapat isa sa magstep up, kailangan ako ‘yung isa sa mga dapat mag-lead, hindi ‘yung parang ako ‘yung mas nagiging pabaya ganon,” he noted.
“‘Yun lang po ‘yung iniisip ko all the time na kailangan maging role model kami, lalo na sa mga rookies namin. Para ‘yun naman ‘yung babaunin ng naiwan namin,” Medino added.
The UAAP Season 86 First Best Open Hitter sealed the championship for España with his final point in the juniors’ division, delivering a powerful kill on an overpass from NUNS’ libero.
“I’m so happy na nagperform po lahat, tsaka as a senior, syempre last playing year sa junior division, happy po ako na isa po ako sa nag-lead sa mga teammates ko na makuha ‘yung championship,” Medino expressed.
Medino concluded his UAAP High School career as the fourth-best scorer with 189 points and the sixth-best spiker with a 38.07 percent success rate while also ranking in the top 10 in both digging and receiving.
Now, he is hoping that he can continue to make UST proud in the collegiate division.
