Dalph Panopio and Cal State Bakersfield suffered their ninth consecutive loss in heartbreaking fashion, absorbing an 81-79 loss versus University of California, Davis in the 2021-22 Big West season, Sunday morning (Manila time) at University Credit Union Center in Davis, California.
The Roadrunners were up 59-54 with 10:32 left in the game before the Aggies stormed back.
Down 78-79 with four seconds left, CSUB’s Cameron Smith was called for a foul that led to two free throws for Elijah Pepper. On the other end, Kaleb Higgins intentionally split his charities but with a second left, a putback could not be secured.
CSUB fell to 6-15 overall and a 1-10 in the conference. They are tied with Cal Poly at 9th and 10th in the 11-team conference.
UC Davis, meanwhile went up to, 4-3 in the league, 11-7 for the season.
Pepper led UC Davis with 24 points while Ezra Manjon added 23 markers.
Higgins paced CSUB with 23 points.
Panopio was once again a starter, tallying nine points, four assists, and two rebounds.
Panopio and CSUB will next face Cal Poly on Wednesday.
In other games, Remy Martin and AJ Edu sat out the games of their respective schools.
Edu’s Toledo (21-6, 13-3 Mid Atlantic Conference) defeated Central Michigan (6-18, 5-8 MAC), 68-66, to regain pole position in MAC at John F. Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio.
Martin’s Kansas (22-4, 11-2 Big 12), meanwhile romped West Virginia (14-12, 3-10 B12) , 71-58, at WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, West Virginia.
