Paat to forego final playing year

Adamson University opposite hitter Mylene Paat played her final match in the UAAP last Wednesday.

The Lady Falcons’ tumultuous season ended with a shocking loss to the University of the East Lady Warriors.

The team captain then revealed her intentions to forego her final playing season. Admittedly, Paat had struggled to lead Adamson as the team captain. The pressure worsened when beloved mentor Sherwin Meneses resigned as head coach midway through the second round.

“Inisip ko nadin yung sarili ko kahit ngayon lang. Total gagraduate na ako. Apply ko nalang yung mga natutunan ko sa alma mater ko sa mga susunod kong mga tatahakin,” the Hospitality Management major told Tiebreaker Times via SMS.

Paat was plucked out of the University of Baguio when she played impressively in the 2013 InterCol tournament. Paat turned down an offer from the De La Salle University Lady Spikers to join Adamson.

The lefty had been instrumental in Adamson’s Season 76 Final Four run. The Lady Falcons then missed the Season 77 semifinals with a 5-9 record, before slumping to a 3-11 finish this season.

Paat showed incredible potential on the sandcourts. As a substitute player, Paat was a part of the trio that made the stepladder Final Four in Season 77. Paired with Gema Galanza, Paat towed Adamson to another Final Four appearance this season before bowing out to the Far Eastern University Lady Tams.

Paat would have played for the National U23 Team in 2015 had the university not blocked her participation.

She now plans to continue playing volleyball in the Shakey’s V-League where she’ll play for Sports Visions’ new team.
