San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President Ramon S. Ang will now also provide incentives for athletes who bag medals in the Tokyo Olympics.
Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Bambol Tolentino said Tuesday that the business magnate has pledged to give P10 million for a gold medal, P5 million for a silver medal, and then P2 million for a bronze.
That is equal to the amount to be given by the MVP Sports Foundation and the government’s incentives based on Republic Act No. 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act.
“Nagpapasalamat din ako kay Mr. Ramon Ang ng San Miguel na nag-commit na rin ng same amount just like MVP Group,” the long-time politician told the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum webcast.
With this, a gold medalist will receive a total of P30 million. Meanwhile, a silver medalist and a bronze winner will get P15 million and P6 million, respectively.
This has made earning the country’s first-ever Olympic gold even more exciting for the 19 Filipino athletes going after such a historic feat.
And Tolentino is expecting those prizes to grow even bigger, most especially when those medal aspirations turn into reality.
“Hopefully marami pang darating,” he told the session powered by SMART and presented by San Miguel Corp., MILO, Amelie Hotel Manila, Braska Restaurant, and the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
“Marami pa yang magco-commit. Marami pa yan lalo na ‘pag na-deliver na. Baka umabot pa ng 50 [million] ‘yan.”
