High expectations are set for National University after sweeping the UAAP Season 84 women’s volleyball elimination round.
And there’s no better coach to handle the Finals-bound Lady Bulldogs than Karl Dimaculangan.
Why? You might ask. Because this is not the first time Dimaculangan tallied a sweep in the UAAP.
So the position NU is in now is not entirely unfamiliar territory for him.
“Sobrang masaya and thankful sa players na rin. Kasi ‘yung feeling ko before na sweep, siguro na translate ko diyan sa team,” said Dimaculangan after NU’s 25-22, 29-27, 25-17 against University of Santo Tomas for the outright Finals berth.
“Kasi Season 71 pa noong player pa ako nung nafeel ‘yung ganitong feeling na makasweep, so sobrang saya na ngayon coach naman ako.”
He was the captain of Season 71’s UST that went 17-0 en route to the championship.
Dimaculangan also proved his wares on the taraflex by getting the Season MVP and Best Server awards that year.
For someone who has done it 13 years ago, he for sure knows that the elimination round is nothing but a stepping stone to their main goal.
“‘Yun lang nireremind ko siguro sa team, na hindi pa rin tapos ‘yung trabaho namin.”
Not only Dimaculangan had an experience of sweeping though. The likes of Mhicaela Belen, Alyssa Solomon, Sheena Toring, and Camilla Lamina went 16-0 in the Season 82 high school girls’ tournament.
So with all the experience gathered in this special NU squad, they expect nothing less but going all the way to the championship.
And for Dimaculangan, deja vu.
