Just two months before the start of the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Volleyball Tournament, University of the East finds itself without a head coach.
Dr. Obet Vital has stepped down from his role, resigning from his post on Tuesday.
“It was a tough decision, but there are things beyond our control that led to this,” Dr. Vital shared.
“There were differences in vision, particularly regarding program development, grassroots initiatives, and the long-term direction of the team. It became clear that our goals and approach no longer aligned.
“Still, I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had with the team and the support from the UE community,” he added.
Dr. Vital joined the UE program ahead of UAAP Season 86, bringing with him standouts from California Academy–Antipolo, including Casiey Dongallo, Jelai Gajero, Kizzie Madriaga, Shamel Fernandez, and Jenalyn Umayam.
His leadership helped infuse standout talents from all over the country into the Lady Warriors’ roster.
During the season, Dr. Vital was tasked with leading the team after head coach Jerry Yee was suspended just three games into the tournament.
Despite the unexpected challenge, Dr. Vital guided the Lady Warriors through a courageous run, with UE ultimately finishing in sixth place.
Dr. Vital continued as head coach during the V-League Collegiate Challenge and Shakey’s Super League Preseason Tournament.
At this time, Dr. Vital has not announced his next move, but he expressed plans to take a brief break before deciding on his next steps.
“I’ll be taking a short break to recharge and reflect before figuring out what’s next for me,” he said.
