As the most dominant high school volleyball team in the local scene in recent years, the core of National University-Nazareth School will now be the nucleus of the pool of the Philippine Under-19 Women’s National Volleyball Team.
Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. bared that a selection of the best high school players bannered by a majority of the Lady Bullpups will don the tricolors of the country. They will participate in the 2020 Asian Women’s U-19 Volleyball Championship in Chongqing, China from June 22 to 29.
NU is coming off a title conquest of the UAAP Season 82 Girls’ Volleyball Tournament two months ago. The proud program has racked up five of the last six championships in the high school scene.
“Alisin na lang nila ‘yung over-age kasi pwede naman sila mag-reinforce,” said National team program head Peter Cayco.
The core of the Lady Bullpups includes Evangeline Alinsug, Michaela Belen, Alyssa Solomon, Camilla Lamina, Erin Pangilinan, Sheena Toring, Kamille Cal, Merienne Maderazo, and Taylor Pena.
LVPI also said that seasoned mentors Kungfu Reyes and Bryan Esquibel will be a part of the coaching staff that will oversee the youth squad.
Moreover, the sport’s governing body has invited Regine Diego, the tactician behind NU Lady Bullpups dominance, to be a part of the U-19 National Coaches pool.
“LVPI would like Regine Diego of NU to be part of the Under-Nineteen National Coaches pool. Kung okay siya to contribute,” said LVPI secretary-general Ariel Paredes.
Paredes also disclosed that LVPI is also looking to send a selection squad in the Princess Cup 14th Southeast Asian Women’s U-17 Championship in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand from August 29 to September 2.
“’Yung Princess Cup balak namin i-offer champion team ng NCAA at UAAP selection,” said Paredes.
