NU Bullpups continue UST woes, rise for share of third


Defending champion National University-Nazareth School grabbed a piece of third place with a 25-21, 10-25, 25-22, 25-22 tripping of University of Santo Tomas, Sunday in the UAAP Season 82 Boys’ Volleyball tournament at Blue Eagle Gym.

In other matches, Far Eastern University-Diliman thumped Ateneo, 25-16, 25-20, 25-22, to remain unscathed while University of the East won its fifth straight match following a 25-22, 25-27, 25-23, 25-19 conquest of Adamson University.

Leo Ordiales had 10 points, Arvin Bandola chalked up nine markers, and Michael Fortuna added eight as the Bullpups tied their victims in no. 3 at 5-5, and more importantly, bolster their semifinals bid.

The trio of Rey De Vega, Jay Rack Dela Noche, and Paul Colinares paced the Tiger Cubs with 21, 19, and 12 points, respectively.

Despite their efforts, UST remained winless in the second round and skidded to its third straight loss.

Rans Cajolo tallied 12 points built on nine spikes, two blocks, and a service ace, Jerold Talisayan got 11 markers and 12 receptions, while Angelo Lipata also had 11 points as the Baby Tamaraws extended their perfect run to 10 matches.

Joshua Espenida registered 23 points, John Paul Mangahis unloaded 18 points while captain Francis Babon contributed 15 markers as the second-running Junior Warriors moved to 9-1.

The Baby Falcons slid to fifth place behind a 5-6 card, half-a-game out in the race for one of two semifinals berths up for grabs.

Evander Novillo led Adamson University with 14 points while Nathaniel Del Pilar chipped in 12 markers.
