For day 2, the National University Bulldogs have the toughest schedule amongst all squads, regardless of gender, in facing the Tiger Jins and the Green Jins in a back-to-back. The Bulldogs showed no signs of intimidation or fatigue before taking the mats. The rejuvenated NU taekwondo program was showcased in their upset win over the defending champions.
Alfred Avila and Paolo Jazmines opened the series with a bang in a fast paced match. After being down 7-2 in the 1st round, Alfred Avila connected on various body and head kicks to end the round with a 14-all tie with Jazmines. Avila rode his momentum going into sudden death in hitting the first successful kick and gaining an NU win. Former MVP Kevin Sia and Josafat Licayan outclassed their opponents, Diether Baylon and Jefferson Piopongco respectively, to give DLSU a 2-1 edge. Aljon Ortonio escaped with a golden point win over Kyle Uy to tie the series. It was Dave Cea, however, who would turn the tides in favor of the Bulldogs. After being down 7-6 in the 1st round of his match against Keith Sembrano, Dave Cea connected on a string of headkicks to score 15 points in the 2nd while Sembrano would only connect on 5 body kicks. Cea won the match 15-13. In the welterweight bout, Arven Alcantara came-out like a house-on-fire to blitz to an early 18-11 lead in the 1st round against Gerry del Rosario. Alcantara displayed a technical game in the 2nd round en route to a 24-12 win and securing an NU upset over the defending champions. Philippine team standout Kris Uy made his UAAP Season 77 debut in the middle-heavyweight bout. Kris Uy, frustrated with the DLSU loss, headkicked his way into a 12-0 win over Erickson Silvestre in just under 2 minutes and 20 seconds of total match time.
