Northport continues to wheel and deal.
In their third transaction in a span of five days, the Batang Pier swapped Sidney Onwubere for Ginebra’s Art Dela Cruz.
The trade received the approval of the Philippine Basketball Association on Tuesday.
Onwubere, a key rotation player for NorthPort, averaged 9.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 12 starts for the Batang Pier.
The 28-year-old product of Emilio Aguinaldo College was the eighth overall pick by Phoenix in the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft.
After being traded to TNT and Rain or Shine from 2018-20, he was able to find a home in Northport early this year. There, he put up vastly improved numbers.
Dela Cruz, on the other hand, did not play last conference due to injuries.
In his last healthy season during the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup, Dela Cruz, 29, averaged 2.2 points and 2.0 rebounds for Ginebra.
Since Friday, Northport has received Vic Manuel — for a few days, Michael Calisaan, Arwind Santos, and now Dela Cruz.
