Having impressed the brass of the Northport Batang Pier during the NCAA Season 94 Seniors Basketball Tournament, the PBA club team has added Letran Knights head coach Jeff Napa to the team’s staff.
He was formally introduced to the team on Monday morning, at the covered courts of Green Meadows village in Pasig City.
“After having a good season with Letran, we’re happy to announce that Jeff Napa has joined the NorthPort coaching staff as one of its assistants,” said Northport team manager Bonnie Tan.
Tan, who has been tasked to oversee the operations of the Knights, had nothing but praise for Napa.
Besides ending Letran’s three-year absence from the Final Four, Napa – a three-time UAAP Juniors Basketball champion – also played a huge role in bringing blue chip recruits to the Knights.
Diliman College Blue Dragons head coach Renzy Bajar has also been added to the staff.
“We’re injecting the coaching staff with young coaches in the hope of getting fresh ideas and starting great things with them,” added Tan.
A known shooter during his collegiate days, Napa will be the team’s big man head coach, guiding the likes of Mo Tautuaa, Bradwyn Guinto, Lervin Flores, and Joseph Gabayni.
In Season 43, Northport finish fifth in the Philippine Cup, only to fall to TNT in the quarterfinals. Again, the Batang Pier did not make it past the quarterfinals during the Commissioner’s Cup. They also finished in 10th place in the season-ending Governors’ Cup.
