Nieto bros recovering from dengue

The Nieto brothers, Matt and Mike, sat out their second straight game for the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, Saturday afternoon. But wasn’t because of injuries.

Matt, who injured his left pinky last against the FEU Tamaraws last October 10, and Mike, who sprained his ankle during practice last week, have already recovered from their respective injuries. However, they were confined to a hospital days before their second round encounter against Far Eastern University for a different reason.

“Nung UP game pa yun. Nung sinabing high fever ako, pagka-check sa akin sa hospital, dengue na pala,” said Matt, who has been averaging 6.86 points, 2.43 assists, and 2.29 rebounds per game.

But it’s not just the twins who caught dengue, as even their younger brother Lebron also caught it.

“Lahat kami nasa ospital, pati yung kapatid namin. Tapos siyempre si papa [Jet], bantay,” added Mike, who is posting norms of 6.14 points and 5.43 rebounds per outing.

The Nietos have no timetable for their return. And they are not rushing things, as they plan to regain optimum strength upon their return.

“Recovering na kami. Wala lang daw definite na return,” shared Mike, Ateneo’s team captain.
