Adamson makes it three in a row, sweeps San Beda

By: Ohmer Bautista

The Adamson University Soaring Falcons continued their winning ways, lambasting the feisty San Beda University Red Spikers in straight-sets, 25-23, 25-21, 29-27, in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference Men’s division at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

“Mas maganda ‘yung performance nila ngayon kesa sa previous games namin,” Falcons assistant coach Neil Miranda said. “At least ngayon, nakikita na namin kung sino ‘yung puwedeng ipasok. ‘Yung mga tamang balasa ng players namin. Tapos nag-improve rin ‘yung first ball at ‘yung receive namin.”

The Falcons handled the driver’s seat during the early goings of the match to take a two sets to none lead. But the Red Spikers still stuck right behind them in the decisive third set, pouncing on the Falcons complacency to force a two-to-win situation.

“Sa third set, nandoon ‘yung maling attitude. Kung lamang ka ng dalawang sets, dapat killer instinct pa rin eh,” Miranda rued. “At andun pa’rin yung sakit namin na kapag may ibang player kami na pinasok, nagbabago ‘yung mood nila.”

From there, Paolo Pablico rallied his teammates and captained a 2-0 finishing blow to propel Adamson to a 3-0 slate.

Geoffrey Alicando spearheaded the Falcons in scoring with 14 points, while Pablico added 12 markers spiked by two aces for Adamson. Falcons setter Franz Amburgo set the table with 30 excellent sets.

Meanwhile, Pat Palattao led all scorers with 17 markers in a losing cause, while Angelo Torres chipped 12 points for the Red Spikers, who fell to a 0-2 card.

The Soaring Falcons look to extend their win streak to four against the win-hungry Perpetual Altas (0-2) on Sunday, August 5, at the same venue. The Red Spikers, on the other hand, will seek to bounce back against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons (0-1) on Saturday, August 4, also at the same venue.
