For the second straight match, the San Beda College Lady Red Spikers had to go the distance.
Nonetheless, it was the same result, as the Lady Red Spikers stayed perfect after subduing the upstart Lyceum of the Philippines University Lady Pirates in five sets, 22-25, 19-25, 25-11, 25-17, 15-7, Wednesday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Team captain Cesca Racraquin led the pride with 26 points off 20 attacks and six aces. Nieza Viray finished with 13 markers for the Lady Red Spikers.
After surrendering the first two sets to the Lady Pirates off easy deliveries, San Beda turned it around from the service area in the last three frames. Aside from the six serves from Racraquin, backup setter Daisy Manuel produced three of the team’s 20 overall.
Nonetheless, head coach Nemesio Gavino said he has not emphasized adjustments on skills, but rather just woke his players up.
“Una, inayos ko lang galawan namin sa court kasi medyo malamya,” he shared. “Alam ko naman galaw ng players ko. Kailangan lang gisingin.”
Monica Sevilla registered 13 markers to lead two others in double digits for Lyceum.
The win set up a titanic clash for the first Final Four berth between two unscathed teams San Beda and the Arellano University (both at 6-0) on the lone Friday match. Lyceum (1-5) will battle the San Sebastian College (3-2) on Sunday.
