Letran revives slim semis hopes after five-set win over EAC

The Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights are still alive

The Intramuros-based squad edged out the Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals, 25-21, 25-27, 25-19, 20-25, 15-12, to resuscitate their dwindling semifinals hopes, Monday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Jayme Parin finished with 18 points to pace her team, 16 off attacks. Miracle Mendoza pinched in 17 markers, three of them aces.

The Knights’ slight edge on attacks, 57-50, was the deciding factor in this match that lasted an hour and 49 minutes.

“One game at a time. Next game namin JRU; hopefully, mabigyan ulit ng panalo. Then, let’s see,” said head coach Mike Inoferio of their slight chance of making the playoffs.

Nonetheless, the mentor tempered his expectations, saying he simply wants his team to finish the season strong. He said, “Ang goal is Top Four. Pero kung ‘di papasok, doblehin na lang ‘yung panalo.”

Laidesheen Magbanua and Jaylene Lumbo both registered 17 markers for the Generals.

Letran (3-4) will try to push for that chance as they battle the Jose Rizal University (4-3) on Wednesday. EAC (1-6) will take on the Lyceum of the Philippines University (1-6) earlier that day.

The Scores:

CSJL 3 – Parin 18, Mendoza 17, Simborio 16, Urriza 10, Abitan 7, Barrinuevo 3, Bangcola 0, Perez 0, Larioque L.

EAC 2 – Lumbo 17, Magbanua 17, Binondo 12, Tongco 9, Tasis 6, Reyes 2, Yongco 0, Medina L.
