Defending NCAA women’s volleyball champions Arellano University are at the top on their own.
The Lady Chiefs shrugged off a sluggish first set, eventually sweeping the Emilio Aguinaldo College Lady Generals, 25-19, 25-12, 25-11, to bag their second straight win in as many matches, Sunday afternoon at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Rookie Necole Ebuen took the scoring reins with 15 points off 12 attacks, two aces, and a block. Jovelyn Prado added 12 markers to lead the supporting cast.
Head coach Obet Javier was pleased with the reigning titlists’ 2-0 start, but he added, “Kung titignan natin maganda kasi nanalo. Pero yung simula, nag-shaky kami.”
But Arellano were simply overwhelming and dispatched the Lady Generals in the next two sets to seal their 14th straight win since last year.
Aira Binondo led the Taft-based squad with eight markers.
The Chiefs (2-0) will try to solidify their hold of the top spot when they face Colegio Letran (0-1) on Friday, January 12. On the other hand, EAC (0-2) will take on Perpetual (1-0) after a long rest, on January 18, Thursday.
