Lady Chiefs shut down Lady Altas’ season, claim second seed

With their Final Four slot already secured, the Arellano University Lady Chiefs mustered a fitting end to their NCAA Season 92 elimination round, sending the University of Perpetual Help System – Dalta Lady Altas packing with a 17-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-13 whooping at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

The Lady Chiefs played tremendously except for the opening set. According to head coach Boyet Javier, the Lady Chiefs came into the match tense due to unnecessary pressure.

Sobrang pressured sila. Sabi ko naman di na nila kailangan ma-pressure kasi sure naman kami na pasok sa Final Four. Sabi ko lang mag-enjoy sila. Good thing nasunod nila,” Javier said.

The rest of the match turned into a one-sided romp as the Lady Chiefs stifled the Lady Altas with heavy serves and solid overall defense. The Lady Altas never sniffed the lead up to the match’s conclusion.

Jovielyn Prado towed the Lady Chiefs with 15 points while Regine Arocha added 13 markers off the bench.

The Lady Chiefs nabbed a twice-to-beat advantage and await the winner of the SBC-CSB tiff for the right to enter the Finals.

Jamela Suyat tallied 12 points in her final game for the Lady Altas while fellow graduating senior Colleen Bravo added four.

For the first time in a long while, the Lady Altas failed to reach the Final Four.
