NCAA 98: Ynot flexes as San Beda asserts mastery over EAC for 25th straight time

Tony Ynot carried the offensive load for San Beda University and ended Emilio Aguinaldo College’s Final Four hopes in the NCAA Season 98 Seniors Basketball Tournament with a 72-64 triumph on Tuesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

San Beda, who bounced back from its overtime loss to Perpetual, went up to 7-4 in the standings while extinguishing EAC’s post-season hopes as the Generals suffered their 12th loss in 13 games.

Ynot was seen on both ends scoring his career-high 25 points on an efficient 10-of-14 shooting together with 10 rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

Only up by one at the start of the payoff period, 54-53, the Red Lions sparked an 11-1 run to get their biggest in the game.

The Generals tried for one last push following a triple from Art Cosa in the final minute, 64-69.

Unfortunately, that was the last one as James Kwekuteye sealed the game with a split free throw followed by a layup with 18-ticks left and give San Beda its 25th straight win over EAC.

“Every game right now is a must-win e, especially since some teams are trying to separate themselves already at the top four, top two e,” said SBU head coach Yuri Escueta.

This is also San Beda’s 25th straight win over EAC.

Kwekuteye scored 13 markers, nine boards, and three steals.

JP Maguliano led EAC with 11 points and nine rebounds. Allen Liwag contributed 10 markers and seven boards.

Next up for both teams are on Saturday. San Beda will take on College of St. Benilde (8-2) at 3 PM, while EAC will face Arellano University (4-6) at 12 NN.
