NCAA 98: Yambing, San Sebastian shoot down JRU’s ‘Sorry Six’

Rhinwill Yambing scored a career best as San Sebastian College-Recoletos took advantage of an incomplete Jose Rizal University, taking a 92-74 domination in the NCAA Season 98 Seniors Basketball Tournament on Friday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Yambing feasted, putting up the highest individual scoring performance this season with 36 points. He knocked down all of his field goals in the three-point area (11-of-15), while also grabbing 10 rebounds.

Still, it was a closely-contested affair in the opening period, 23-20,

Things started to turn around in the second, though. The Stags joined hands in scoring 25 second-quarter points while also limiting JRU to just three field goals with 10 points.

San Sebastian did not look back after Yambing made it rain from downtown as he went perfect 5-of-5 in the third canto.

“I’m very sorry for JRU sa nangyari, but ang hirap lumaban kapag anim lang, or nakakalamang ka, dahil nappressure ka. Yun nakikita nung mga bata nung una e,” said San Sebastian head coach Egay Macaraya.

Joining Yambing are Alex Desoyo, who finished with a well-rounded 12 points, five rebounds, eight assists and a steal; and Romel Calahat who also had 12 markers, eight boards, and four dimes.

Three Heavy Bombers ended up in double figures led by Agem Miranda with 27 points, five rebounds, and three assists. JL Delos Santos flirted with a triple-double with 17 markers, 10 boards, and seven dimes.

Jed Mercado scored all of JRU’s bench points with 17.

The Stags (6-7) overtook the Heavy Bombers (6-8) for the fifth spot.
