NCAA 98: Mary Rhose Dapol drops 28 as Perpetual notches back-to-back win


University of Perpetual Help System DALTA continued its streak in the NCAA Season 98 Women’s Volleyball Tournament after beating Jose Rizal University, 25-23, 16-25, 25-14, 25-22 on Tuesday at the San Andres Sports Complex in Manila.

Mary Rhose Dapol led the Perpetual charge with 28 points, built on 19 attacks, eight aces, and one block. Marian Andal added 28 receptions and 23 digs.

Head coach Sandy Rieta emphasized the importance of their good start into the season as they can build momentum going forward.

“Napakalaking bagay, madadagdagan yung kumpyansa ng team ko. Wag masyado lalakas yung loob nila pero dapat andun pa din yung tiwala sa sarili,” said Rieta.

Following the loss in the second frame, the Lady Altas were determined not to drop another set afterward as they finished it in the fourth after a close contest, 25-22 capped by Shaila Omipon’s smash.

Sydney Niegos and Mary Ruiz for JRU had 14 and 10 points apiece.

Meanwhile, Lyceum of the Philippines University completed a come-from-behind 25-20, 16-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-6 win over Mapua University.

Jhona Dolorito finished the game with 16 points on 5 attacks, while Venice Puzon contributed 18 excellent sets for Lyceum.

Trailing two sets to one, the Lady Pirates were able to force a fifth set decider after a close 25-22 canto victory.

The run continued in the fifth set as Lyceum scored nine straight points to turn a 6-5 lead into a 15-5 finish capped by Jewel Maligmat service ace.

For the Lady Cardinals, Roxie Dela Cruz scored 20 points on 15 attacks and five serves, while Vanessa Basas added 21 excellent digs.

Perpetual went up to 2-0 while Lyceum notched its first win. Mapua fell to 0-1 while JRU remained winless in two outings.
