NCAA 97: EAC bounces back, keeps JRU winless

Emilio Aguinaldo College turned the game off Jose Rizal University for a bounce-back 80-65 rout in the NCAA Season 97 seniors basketball tournament, Saturday at the La Salle Green Hills’ St. Benilde Gym in Mandaluyong City.

The ploy of getting Marwin Taywan and Ralph Robin off the bench worked wonders for the Generals, as it was this backcourt duo that pushed the pace for the squad in that second- and third-quarter breakthrough.

Taywan scored eight points in the second period, including back-to-back-triples, to push the lead to eight, 4:26 left in the first half.

Robin then put the finishing touches with his own two treys early in the fourth to extend the advantage to its biggest at 22, 67-45, with 8:57 remaining in the game.

The Generals marched to a share of the fifth spot with the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA at 2-3, while the Heavy Bombers dropped their fifth straight loss, 0-5, with just four games left in their elimination round schedule.

EAC will go for a back-to-back win when they battle San Sebastian College-Recoletos (1-3) on April 13 at 12:00 NN. On the other hand, JRU will look to get into the winning column against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (4-1) in that lone game on April 12 at 3:00 PM.
