NBL: Kai Sotto’s season-best not enough to lift Adelaide past NZ

Kai Sotto and Adelaide turned in a huge rally, but it was not enough to topple New Zealand, bowing 85-83 in the 2022-23 National Basketball League season, Sunday at Adelaide Entertainment Centre.

Sotto tallied 16 points with five rebounds and two blocks in another start.

In the endgame, however, Anthony Drmic and Ian Clark missed two potential winners for deep. That would have completed their rally from being down 85-76.

Barry Brown Jr. led the Breakers in scoring with 16 points while Jarrell Brantley tallied 15 points, five rebounds, and two steals.

Izayah Le’afa got 13 markers as well while both Dererk Pardon and Will Mcdowell-White chipped in 10 markers apiece, helping New Zealand raise its slate to 13-6 – second in the league.

Robert Franks paced Adelaide with 20 points, 13 rebounds, and three steals, while Antonius Cleveland got 18 points and five rebounds. Clark added 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Adelaide remained in a tie with Tasmania at fourth to fifth with identical 11-10 slates.
