Mikh McKinney set a new career-high of 41 points to power the Macau Black Bears to a 114-95 road victory over neighbors Hong Kong Eastern in the 9th ASEAN Basketball League, Tuesday night at Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai City.
The Fil-American’s previous high was 32 points, which he set last April 11 of this year in Game One of their semifinal series versus eventual runners-up Mono Vampire BC. His efforts went down the drain, though, as they lost, 94-103.
McKinney shot 57 percent from the field en route to his new record. He also finished with six rebounds and eight assists, as he played all 40 minutes.
The 2018 ASEAN Heritage Import Most Valuable Player was also in the forefront of Macau’s fourth quarter pullaway. McKinney went hot on scoring and assisting to help his team lead by as many as 22 points, 110-88, with less than three minutes left.
2018 World Import MVP Anthony Tucker supplied 29 points and eight assists as well for the Black Bears. Center Ryan Watkins provided 15 points and 12 rebounds, while local Nathan Yu chimed in 13 markers spiked by three triples.
Former Mono import Sam Deguara led Hong Kong Eastern with 29 points alongside nine rebounds. Eric Ferguson made 27 points and 13 boards; while veteran Marcus Elliott produced 21 points, 10 caroms, and eight dimes.
The Black Bears, formerly known as the Chong Son Kung Fu BC, improved to 3-1.
