Following the one-sided Battle for Sampaloc match a few hours earlier, the squads of UP and Ateneo took to the courts to decide who the better tennisters in Katipunan are.
Ultimately, the premiere state university in the Philippines proved to be far too much for their neighbors as they dominated their way to a 4-1 victory to show that they are the better tennisters in the area.
Leading the UP domination was Joshua Miranda who successfully dispatched Ateneo’s Iyo Canlas with a 6-4, 6-3 victory followed by the defeat of Ateneo’s Ralph Antonia at the hands of Angelo Esguerra in a quick 6-0, 6-0 sweep.
UP’s two doubles teams also successfully dispatched their assignments as UP’s Encarnacion and Mariano defeated ADMU’s Punzalan and Rivero in a 6-4, 6-4 finish while the duo of Ferrer and Belda beat the duo of Gatdula and Esconde 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Ateneo’s lone victory came courtesy of Ino Canlas who won over UP’s Mikko Ringia 6-4, 6-1.
