UP Maroons deny Green Tennisters’ first victory

Holding on to their hard fought victory against Ateneo de Manila University, the UP Fighting Maroons pulls of another victory as they dispatch the Green Tennisters during the 2nd day match ups at Olivarez Sports Center last January 11.

Initially starting at a deadlock with both schools holding 2 games each, both schools duked it out in an intense matchup between DLSU’s Kyle Parpan and UP’s Angelo Esguerra to decide the victors. The deadlock was made possible with the successful run of DLSU single competitors Alberto Villamor and LA Cañizares who respectively dispatches UP singles players Mikko Ringgia (3-6, 0-6) and Joshua Miranda (6-7, 6-4, 1-6). The equalizing wins of UP came in the hands of their doubles teams competitors Reynaldo Mariano and Franklin Encarnacion who defeats DLSU’s Akio Sy and Dale Gorospe in a 6-2, 6-3 match while UP second duo of Enrique Ferrer and Miguel Belda also proved to be the victors in their match against Ernesto Pantua and Qoqo Allian after a tense 7-6 6-4 match.

The tie breaking match of Palpan and Esguerra ultimately ends with UP’s victory after a deuce filled three set match end in their favour 6-7, 6-0, 6-2.

The loss of the Green Tennisters leaves them with a 0-2 standing as they exit the second day after a first day 2-3 loss against UST. The UP squadron, however, exits the second day with a 2-0 standing after defeating university neighbour ADMU in the opening day of the tournament.
