Marlon Dasig hopes dramatic UST win sparks Adamson’s Final Four push

Marlon Dasig hopes Adamson University can use its dramatic 1-0 victory over the University of Santo Tomas as a springboard for greater success in the UAAP Season 89 Collegiate Men’s Football Tournament.

Dasig, who hails from Dipolog City, came on as a late substitute for Adamson last Sunday and produced the match’s biggest moment, scoring from close range in the 90+4th minute to ensure that the Soaring Falcons would take all three points at the UP Diliman Football Stadium.

Despite his late-game heroics, Dasig brushed off his individual contribution, viewing it simply as his duty to the team.

“Sinasabi ko lang sa sarili ko na nagpasok ko po, kailangan ko po mag-contribute kasi nga I’m a sub po,” said Dasig. “As a sub po, you need to adjust and you need to trabahuin mo yung trabaho mo.”

Winning on opening day is always a major boost, giving teams early momentum to build on. For Adamson, however, the victory meant more than just three points as the Soaring Falcons look to make an impact in Season 89 after entering the tournament as the reigning Tuloy Invitational Football Cup 2026 champions.

For the BSBA Marketing student, though, the victory comes with responsibilities on both sides. The Soaring Falcons must continue improving and show consistency in every match, while their opponents will also have to take them more seriously and avoid complacency.

“So much pressure po, kasi nga more expectations po,” said Dasig. “They need to adjust din po, and also us, na mag-adjust din na baka may ipapalit sila o may panibago sila kasi nga we’re champions po sa off-season po.”

Buoyed by their win over the Golden Booters, the Soaring Falcons look to maintain their momentum when they face the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Thursday at 7 p.m.

It promises to be another stern test for Adamson, with Ateneo eager to bounce back from a 3-0 loss to archrival De La Salle last Sunday.

Dasig, however, embraces the challenge, knowing that a Final Four berth will require the Soaring Falcons to consistently take points against the league’s top teams.

“Hoping po na after this first win po na maging contender para makuha namin ‘yung Final Four,” he said.
