Roselle Lecera strikes early as mature FEU hands UST first loss

Straight from their opening day victory against the Ateneo Lady Eagles, the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws understood that a victory over UAAP Season 80 Women’s Football finalists University of Santo Tomas Lady Booters would send a big message across the league.

Let Dimzon’s team accomplished just that with a 1-0 victory over UST to clinch their second victory in the UAAP Season 81 Women’s Football Tournament, Wednesday afternoon at the Circulo Verde field in Quezon City.

“Pinag-aralan namin yung attacking and defending nila. From the normal positioning namin, organization namin during defending, nag-change kami parang mas ma-kontrol yung attacking ng UST,” commented FEU mentor Let Dimzon.

The game was settled as early as the fifth minute of the contest, when Roselle Lecera shot past UST goalkeeper Beatriz Sacdalan. The Lady Tamaraws then managed to hold on to their lead, much to the Lady Booters’ frustrations.

“Expected na malakas ang UST regarding sa technical and individual skills. Pero if we are working as a group, as a team, I think na makukuha talaga namin yung game. Yun lang talaga. (We) always impose yung discipline sa individual and group defending,” added Dimzon.

“Pumapasok na yung maturity,” said a pleased Dimzon. “Mas determined sila ngayon dahil madaming graduating this year. Talagang gusto nilang makuha itong mga games namin. We are not yet sure kung saan kami dadalhin. Yung setting up ng minds nila ay nakafocus sa we’re going to play in the finals.”

FEU (6 points) next play the University of the Philippines on March 9, 2019, 3:00 PM. Meanwhile, UST (3 points) hopes to bounce back against the De La Salle University-Manila in the 1:00 PM game. Circulo Verde will host both games.

UST XI: Cadag, Dahildahil, Durano, Indac, Jihad, Lemoran, Lopez, Lustan (C), Palaubsanon, Punzalan, Sacdalan (GK).
