Mapua University continued to turn its fortunes around after ripping San Sebastian College-Recoletos, 25-13, 25-23, 25-18, in the NCAA Season 95 Men’s Volleyball Tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre on Friday.
“Sa ngayon, gusto na manalo ng mga bata kasi nu’ng una, gustong manalo pero talagang hirap kami. Pero ngayon nakuha na nila ‘yung rhythm,” Mapua head coach Paul John Doloiras said. “Tsaka ‘yung kagustuhan nilang manalo onti-onti nang nagsi-sink in sa kanila, kaya gumaganda ‘yung laro. Sana lang magtuloy-tuloy.”
Save for the second frame, the Cardinals hardly broke a sweat in the match that lasted for an hour and five minutes. The win elevated their slate to 2-3, firming up their place in the middle of the pack.
Mapua captain Emman Hizon continued to be a steady source of offense for his side. He pummeled 10 attacks and nailed a pair of blocks, finishing with a game-high 12 markers while leading six other Cardinals in scoring.
Peter Anthony Sanado also dealt damage with 11 markers, while Benedict San Andres and Alfredo Pangulong chimed in nine and seven points, respectively.
San Sebastian, on the other hand, slumped to a 1-5 card, falling in a three-way logjam with Lyceum and JRU.
No Golden Stag barged into the scoring column. Dominique Ramirez topped his side with seven markers, as team captain John Eusebio managed just five.
Mapua tries to sustain its winning form when it collides with Jose Rizal University on Monday, February 3. Meanwhile, San Sebastian seeks to bounce back when it faces Emilio Aguinaldo College on Thursday, February 6. Both matches will be held at the same venue.
