Mane ‘n Tail drops Cignal for first win

After a disgruntled first game performance, the Mane ‘n Tail Lady Stallions overcame the Cignal HD Spikers in three tight sets, 27-25, 25-21, 25-21, at the San Juan Arena.

The Lady Stallions used a balanced attack to weather the furious attacking of Cignal’s Jeanette Panaga who garnered a game-high 21 points. Three ladies dropped double-digit performances including Royse Tubino and Danika Genrauli who both pitched in 11 markers while Sam Dawson pitched in 10. Cignal’s 33 errors severely hampered their attack.

The HD Spikers had the upper hand early in the match as their blocking and rebounding stifled the Lady Stallions’ attacks. They held a slim 13-11 lead until Mane ‘n Tail’s Royse Tubino and Abigail Praca pulled them back. The Lady Stallions’ floor defense also worked exceptionally well early, allowing them to hack away at Cignal’s lead before taking it for good at 20-19. From there, Mane ‘n Tail closed the set out behind the steady hands of their veterans as the set extended into a deuce.

The Lady Stallions looked primed to trample the HD Spikers after taking an early 8-1 lead. Cignal countered with a run of their own as Mela Tunay’s attacks and the Lady Stallions’ errors allowed the HD Spikers to creep back into the set at 15-16. Cignal’s reception went sour at the most crucial moment of the match, when they tied the match at 21. Mane ‘n Tail went on to score all the proceeding points to seal the second set.

Cignal again had a momentary hold on the lead in the final set of the match before Mane ‘n Tail took hold of the match. Cignal hung onto a 11-10 lead before relinquishing control to Mane ‘n Tail who used a 5-0 run to pull away. Cignal tried to creep back but their errors were just too much to overcome.

“Maganda ‘yung communication namin kanina. Nadoon na rin talaga ‘yung drive namin to win saka ‘yung skills. We just really need to remember to communicate,” said Mane ‘n Tail Head Coach Rosemarie Prochina.

The setback keeps Cignal winless in two games while Mane ‘n Tail moves to a 1-1 record.
