Jinino Manansala will no longer handle University of Santo Tomas’ men’s basketball team.
Instead, the former Growling Tiger will be handling the Tiger Cubs program for UAAP Season 85.
Multiple sources closely monitoring the situation confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.
Manansala was given the post to coach the Growling Tigers back in 2020 after the school let go of Aldin Ayo.
He steered UST to a 3-11 record in the 5-on-5 tournament before making up for it by winning gold in the men’s 3×3 tournament. The Growling Tigers’ win in 3×3 virtually sealed the general championship for UST.
Manansala replaces McJour Luib in the Tiger Cubs program. Luib resigned from his post a week after Season 84.
With regards to the Growling Tigers, the school will decide on who the next head coach will be in a “couple of weeks”, according to Tiebreaker Times sources.
The sources added that the San Miguel Corporation will most likely take over the program with Rensy Bajar being eyed to coach the team for Season 85. SMC handling the program was also reported by SPIN.ph’s Snow Badua.
Bajar is currently an assistant coach in Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Northport.
SMC – headed by sports director Alfrancis Chua – is also handling Letran’s basketball program.
