UAAP women’s volleyball is De La Salle University’s playground, making its 11th Finals appearance in the last 12 seasons.
In those 11 times the Lady Spikers entered the championship round, seven times they went all the way to the title.
But this Season 84, the odds are against La Salle, facing an undefeated and well-rested National University in the best-of-three Finals.
The Lady Spikers also have no Finals experience, as there is nobody left from the Season 80 champion team.
But one common denominator of all La Salle teams that made the Finals in the last 12 seasons is master tactician Ramil De Jesus.
“We want to win talaga, we want to bawi, kasi ‘yung larong ‘to ino-offer talaga namin for coach Ramil and syempre sa seniors namin,” said super rookie Alleiah Malaluan, who punched in 16 points in La Salle’s win versus Ateneo de Manila University for the Finals berth.
But entering the Finals is not the goal of the Lady Spikers. They want to win it all.
They celebrated after beating the Blue Eagles, but back to business again.
“Entering the Finals, mindset ko is hindi pa tapos ‘yung season,” said Malaluan.
“Kailangan talaga namin magwork hard for the ates and coaches and sa buong Lasallian community.”
The Lady Spikers will give the 14-0 Lady Bulldogs a run for their money, keen to bounce back after losing both games in the elimination round in sweeping fashion.
And with doubts about this batch of Lady Spikers, Malaluan only has this to say: “Hindi pa kami tapos. Kailangan pa namin nagtiyaga in everything we need to do when it comes to the Finals.”
