Makati’s David Carlos retains MPBL Slam Dunk crown

Word-class dunker David Carlos of the Makati-Super Crunch once again ruled the Chooks-to-Go/MPBL Lakan All-Star Slam Dunk contest, Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

David, who stamped his class in last year’s edition of the event, threw down a one-handed jam over four people which included Senator and MPBL founder Manny Pacquiao and his son, Jimuel.

A pro dunker who won numerous international events, David knew that he had to pull something from his bag to amaze the judges and the crowd. And luckily for him, his gamble paid off.

“Medyo na-surprise ako. Na-hype ni Nick ‘yung crowd pero ang dami nang situations na ganito, and I had to pull off something sa bag ko na makuha ko ‘yung eighty to ninety percent. Maganda naman ‘yung result,” shared Carlos.

For me, magsisimula na ‘yung season, mag-tour na kami… Malaking event siya para ma-gauge kung nasaan ako, ano kailangan i-tweak sa technique at sa strength ko,” he added.

Bacoor’s Nick Demusis, meanwhile, threw down a two-handed slam tossed by the Senator to settle for 42 points. Chris Lalata of Bicol then rounded up the podium with 37 points after a reverse two-handed dunk.

David bagged a total of PHP 100,000 in the event backed by Chooks-to-Go.

RJ Ramirez and Biboy Enguio, who got booted out in the first round, tallied 27 and 26 points, respectively.

Judges for the event were Chooks-to-Go president Ronald Mascariñas, Jimuel Pacquiao, MPBL Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes, Manok ng Bayan Kobe Paras, and Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas spokesperson Mark Zambrano.
