Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the Mahindra Enforcers scored contrasting wins Wednesday in the PBA-Tag Heuer women’s 3-on-3 basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Ginebra recorded their second straight win after an impressive 16-6 beating of Alaska in Group A. Ginebra tied NLEX at 2-0, while the Aces fell back to the .500 mark at 2-2.
An alley-oop leading to an and-one play by MJ Galicia made it a 7-3 lead for Ginebra as the team slowly pulled away from Alaska.
Mix Bautista then asserted her strength inside, scoring on post-up plays. Two long range shots by Angeli Gloriani punctuated the ending for Ginebra, 16-6.
Also in Group A action, the Mahindra Enforcers snapped a two-game slide and booked their first win via a hard-fought 13-12 decision over the Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters.
A basket by Jacquelyn Suarez pushed Phoenix ahead, 5-3, before Anna Buendia racked up four straight points to help Mahindra take the 8-5 margin.
But Joan Diego and Suarez brought Phoenix back, each scoring two baskets. Another basket by Diego made it 11-10 for Phoenix, but Jinky Balasta answered back, tying the count at 11 apiece.
After a Phoenix turnover, Cindy Resultay then made the go-ahead basket while fishing a foul to complete an and-one.
Phoenix dropped to 0-2 in Group A with the loss.
