ANTIPOLO — Magnolia posted back-to-back victories in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup once more after sending Converge crashing back down to earth by way of a 106-94 result on Sunday night at the Ynares Center here.
Coming off a 120-101 rout of an all-Filipino San Miguel, the Hotshots built a good lead early before pulling away late on the way to winning two straight for the first time since beating Macau and Terrafirma following a 0-3 start.
With the result, the traditional contenders improved to 4-4 after bursting the bubble of a FiberXers team that’s fresh of a big win against a hard-lucked Titan Ultra that snapped a harrowing five-game losing skid for a youth-laden crew.
But now, they’re on the losing yet again, while Magnolia forced a tie with the Beermen at the no. 7 spot of the standings with similar 4-4 records.
Clint Chapman led the way with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Zav Lucero supplied 17 points and 14 rebounds as well, as he braved through a hard foul by opposing wing Calvin Abueva early in the fourth that led to an F1 infraction.
Rome Dela Rosa supplied 13 points and six rebounds while sophomore PG Jerom Lastimosa chipped in 10 markers for the Hotshots.
