Adamson University hit a milestone on Saturday.
For the first time since UAAP Season 73, the Lady Falcons have completed a season sweep of Ateneo de Manila University.
Back on March 12, Adamson dominated Ateneo, 25-18 25-23, 25-19. Their second round tussle was a bit of a struggle but still, the Lady Falcons pulled off a 25-23, 25-17, 26-24 win on Saturday.
And no one was happier than Lady Falcons skipper Louie Romero.
“Sobrang happy ‘yun nga di naman aakalain na ma-sweep namin,” the 5-foot-4 playmaker out of Rodriguez, Rizal.
“Although may mga lapses pa kami kailangan pa i-work out.”
It’s been 13 years since Adamson achieved the feat.
Back then, Adamson was led by Pau Soriano and had the legendary Dulce Pante as head coach.
The ‘Fab Five’ back then was just in their junior years.
Since then, the then-Lady Eagles proved bane to the Lady Falcons.
From five-setters to playoffs, Adamson simply could not get past Ateneo.
From Sherwin Meneses to Air Padda to Lerma Giron and from players like Mylene Paat, Amanda Villanueva, Bang Pineda, Jema Galanza, Chiara Permentilla, and Trisha Genesis, no one can seem to solve the puzzle that was Ateneo.
Even Romero experienced heartbreak against Ateneo last year.
“Siguro ‘yung game nung [Season 84] playoffs,” Romero recalled about her worst loss at the hands of Ateneo.
Back in June 11, Ateneo and Adamson figured in a playoff for the last stepladder slot. The Blue Eagles though dominated the game, 25-20, 28-26, 25-22, to oust the Lady Falcons.
But now the tables have turned.
Under the watchful eye of Jerry Yee, Romero and Adamson are now at solo second with a 7-2 record. Ateneo, meanwhile, is at 3-6.
Romero though is calling on Adamson to not rest on their laurels as they head to the final stretch of the elimination round.
“‘Yun kasi may break kami, so ayun ‘yung pinaka-importante na nanalo kami ngayon,” said the graduating setter.
“Ayun ‘yung paghuhugutan namin ng magpahinga muna kami mag-recover, and then mag-training para tuloy tuloy ‘yung mga panalo na nakuha namin.”
