Despite arriving just three days ago, Cuban import Liannes Simon still carried Cignal to a 19-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-20, over Generika-Ayala in the 2020 PSL Grand Prix, Tuesday at the Strike Gym in Bacoor City.
Simon was unstoppable in the contest, firing 29 points on 24-of-66 attempts on spikes.
“Happy ako kasi unang-una, wala pang tulog ‘yan eh. Dumating siya noong Saturday. Kagabi pinadalhan ko pa siya ng sleeping pills na ginagamit ko na alam kong effective,” said Cignal head coach Edgar Barroga about the performance of Simon.
The HD Spikers needed to buck a slow start, eventually finding their bearings in the latter sets.
“Unang-una, medyo nagkaroon kami ng problema sa receiving pattern, so noong second set na-adjust na namin,” added Barroga.
Setter Alohi Robins-Hardy continue to show her all-around skills, finishing with 14 markers. Meanwhile, Ranya Musa and Roselyn Doria added seven and six markers, respectively.
Mika Lopez suffered an injury during the contest.
Generika-Ayala, who fell to 0-2, was led by Elizabeth Campos with 21 points. Eli Soyud had 13 markers as well.
