Veteran sniper Larry Fonacier will spearhead NLEX in the inaugural PBA 3×3.
The team made the announcement on Wednesday, the same day that the league unveiled the 2021 Philippine Cup schedule and the 12 teams’ lineups.
This will mark the 39-year-old’s return to action after skipping the season resumption last year in Pampanga due to personal reasons.
Many initially thought the incoming 16-year pro would make the 15-man roster for the regular 5-on-5 tilt. However, the Road Warriors ultimately decided to put him in NL3X first to help fast track his progress back into game shape.
“His return to form is faster than expected and in fact, his inclusion in the regular roster was even up to serious discussions. Talagang pinag-isipan namin ng husto,” head coach Yeng Guioa told ArangkadaNLEX.com
Fonacier will lead the 3×3 team that also features 36-year-old Maurice Shaw. NLEX acquired the 6-foot-10 center in a three-team trade with Blackwater and TNT, which involved the 2021 Rookie Draft’s no. 4 pick.
Completing the squad are Kyles Lao, AC Soberano, and rookie David Murrell, the Road Warriors’ 20th pick in last March’s draft proceedings.
Former PBA players and Guiao’s assistant coaches Borgie Hermida and Emman Monfort will handle the crew.
