La Union ends Mindoro’s NBL streak, seals second seed


La Union sent Mindoro packing with a 101-77 victory Saturday in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go NBL Chairman’s Cup at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.

And the PAOwer banked on a huge second half storm to breakaway and solidify their hold of the second seed at 7-2.

Leading by just two at halftime, La Union went to work come the third quarter. Erven Silverie made 10 of his 12 points en route to a 31-22 third and a 66-55 lead heading to fourth.

And the PAOwer did not stop at 11.

They utilized another huge run in the fourth period, putting up a 35-point frame while holding Mindoro to just 22.

Billy Boado went on a rebounding expedition, grabbing 24. He also made 16 points, five assists, three steals, and a block for La Union.

JP Pascua was a marksman off the bench with 23 points and seven rebounds in just 20 minutes.

Jayson Apolonio and Gay Lord Pambid tallied 15 points each, while Maynes had 12 points and nine rebounds.

JJ Caspe paced Mindoro with 21 points and seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Rodel Vaygan chipped in 18 points and seven rebounds.

Aga Bernal had a career game off the bench with 14 points and four rebounds.

The Disiplinados slipped to 3-6, bowing out of contention.

Mindoro will still face Taguig tomorrow.
