De La Salle University clinched its third win of the season, edging National University, 2-0, in the UAAP Season 89 Collegiate Women’s Football Tournament on Wednesday at the UP Diliman Football Stadium in Quezon City.
After inclement weather delayed the start of the match by 30 minutes from its scheduled 2 p.m. kickoff, Jodi Banzon made the wait worthwhile, breaking the deadlock in the 37th minute to put the Lady Booters ahead.

Chenny Dañoso doubled La Salle’s advantage in the 57th minute, scoring her second goal of the season to further cushion the Lady Booters’ lead. Lara Regarde provided the assist, finding Dañoso, who beat goalkeeper Queenie Magarso to put La Salle firmly in control.
The goal also moved Dañoso level with Regarde at two goals apiece this season.
“I’m happy for Chenny na nakuha niya yung second goal niya,” said coach Joyce Landagan. “Now, I hope na magtuloy-tuloy and, pangalawa, the connection between her and her teammates, how she activates her teammates, sana magtuloy-tuloy.”

The victory lifted La Salle to a maximum nine points and a plus-six goal difference, putting the Lady Booters atop the standings as of this writing.
More importantly, the result kept the Lady Booters perfect under Landagan, who once again urged her players to keep their feet on the ground and continue working hard.
“We will stick to each game. Yung mga plano naming, we will stick to it. We will take one game at a time lagi para from there we’ll see yung progress namin as a team,” she said.
La Salle will look to make it four straight wins when it faces the University of Santo Tomas on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. NU, meanwhile, will seek its first points of the season against the University of the Philippines at 7 p.m. Both matches will be played at the same venue.
