Chery Tiggo’s lead deputy Kungfu Reyes was proud to see his former UST Golden Tigress spiker Dimdim Pacres back in the Premier Volleyball League after five years.
The veteran coach’s Crossovers faced Pacres’ Galeries on Thursday, winning in straight sets, 25-14, 25-15, 25-21 at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
After a four-point performance in the Highrisers’ debut last Tuesday, Pacres led her team against Chery Tiggo with 11 points on an 11-of-23 attack rate.
“Well, masaya kasi andiyan siya ulit, nakabalik,” said Reyes about Pacres, who played for the University of Santo Tomas in UAAP Season 79 to 81.
“Maganda ‘yun, at least meron na rin siyang, syempre, additional income, number one ‘yun. The second one is naeenjoy niya kung ano talaga ‘yung laro na pinakamamahal niyang sports, which is ito na.”
Chery Tiggo star EJ Laure, also a former Golden Tigresses standout, shared her thoughts on her “best friend,” Pacres.
The two played together in Season 79.
“As a teammate dati at, syempre, best friend ko rin si Dimdim, happy ako sa kanya na nandito na ulit siya sa PVL at malalaro na rin niya kung ano ‘yung gusto niya, kung ano ‘yung naexperience namin,” said Laure.
“Happy lang ako na bumalik na siya. Siya din ‘yung nagpahirap sa amin sa mga dropball niya. Happy ako sa kanya.”
Although Pacres is still working on her conditioning, Reyes said that the 26-year-old Cebuana can still be lethal, as proved by her performance against the Crossovers.
Pacres displayed a variety of attacks against Chery Tiggo, combining powerful hits with smart and witty off-speed shots.
“Tiyagain na lang si Dimdim at basahin, kasi nga, well, literally and physically, di pa prepared si Dimdim. Pero ‘yung instinct niya, ‘yung determination na umiskor, mag-lead, di naman nawawala sa katawan niyan,” said the long-time UST coach.
“Ang sabi nga namin, basahin mabuti. Anytime kasi, pwede ‘yun, gaya nung third set, nagpakawala ng isang malakas na atake. Ibig sabihin, nandoon pa talaga ‘yung pagiging siya, ‘yung pagiging Boom Pacres na tinatawag natin,” Reyes said regarding what he told the team to control Pacres.
