Kevin Quiambao has opted out of joining Gilas Pilipinas Men for their campaign in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games.
Multiple sources closely monitoring the situation confirmed that Quiambao has already informed the Philippine Sports Commission of his decision.
His club team, Goyang Sono, had cleared him to join Gilas — not only for the November window of the FIBA World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers, which are home-and-away games against Guam, but also for the regional meet scheduled from December 9 to 20 in Thailand.
However, the Quiambao camp cited the need for a short break after the World Cup window and before the resumption of the KBL season.
The 24-year-old has been playing non-stop this year for both Gilas and the Skygunners.
Had he joined Norman Black’s squad, he would have missed six games for Goyang Sono.
Quimbao remains committed to the November window, which falls inside the FIBA international window.
Last season, the Skygunners finished in 8th place with a 19-35 record, with Quiambao averaging 16.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.
Gilas is gunning for a 20th gold medal in the biennial meet’s men’s basketball tournament.
