In a heartbreaking turn of events for NLEX and the Alas family, it has been confirmed that Kevin Alas suffered a torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).
ArangkadaNLEX posted the team statement this evening.
The MRI results, obtained on Monday, unveiled the severity of the injury. That prompted the team to initiate a comprehensive assessment and devise a strategic plan for Alas’s recovery.
The unfortunate incident occurred during last Saturday’s game against Terrafirma at the Ynares Center Antipolo.
Alas, the heart and soul of the Road Warriors, exited the game at the 11:11-mark of the second quarter.
The injury unfolded as he aggressively attacked the defense of Javi Gomez de Liaño in transition, causing his left knee to give way.
Despite the adversity, Alas displayed resilience, taking some time before getting back on his feet and walking unassisted to the team’s bench.
This marks the third ACL tear for Alas, and eerily, the previous two incidents also occurred at the same Antipolo venue.
The first instance took place against Magnolia on March 18, 2018, followed by another unfortunate event against Meralco on February 2, 2019.
As the NLEX Road Warriors grapple with the setback, the focus now shifts to supporting Alas in his recovery journey and adjusting the team’s strategy in his absence.
The Road Warriors management is expected to provide further updates on the rehabilitation timeline and the measures being taken to ensure Alas returns to the court.
