Kelly Nabong slapped with hefty P30K fine

The PBA has fined Kelly Nabong Php30,000 for his hard foul on Chris Newsome during San Miguel’s 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup meeting versus Meralco last Sunday.

The 6-foot-6 bruiser appeared to have shoved Newsome at the 7:46-mark of the final frame when the latter tried to evade his defense. The 29-year-old then fell badly to the floor.

Referees assessed Nabong with a flagrant foul penalty one, then ejected him since he also incurred a technical foul for a verbal altercation with Raymond Almazan following Newsome’s fall.

Newsome did not suffer any major injury, finishing the match which his Bolts won convincingly, 125-99.

Nabong, 30, was summoned in the league’s office last Tuesday by deputy commissioner Eric Castro.

League commissioner Willie Marcial, though, said that he will slap heftier fines on Nabong should he do such again.
