Rhenz Abando of Anyang KGC put on a show during the 2023 KBL All-Star slam dunk competition, Sunday at Suwon KT Sonicboom Arena.
The athletic 6-foot-2 swingman native of Pangasinan threw down an array of gravity-defying dunks en route to a perfect run in the slam dunk competition.
During the first round, his first attempt was a 360 jam before signaling that the competition was over.
After an off-an-alley-oop dunk from Ulsan Hyundai Mobis’ RJ Abarrientos and a backboard tap jam, Abando was off to the final round.
In the final round – which took place during the halftime break of the all-star game – Abando went for broke. He decided on a windmill jam, which he converted.
“I’ve never been successful with a windmill, but I had to do it to win this contest,” said the former UST and Letran stalwart.
Abando closed things out with a double clutch jam for a perfect 100 run.
He defeated Ha Yungi of Suwon KT (90), Park Jincheol of Goyang (87), and Choi Jin Soo of Ulsan Hyundai Mobis (89) in the final round.
Meanwhile, RJ Abarrientos of Ulsan Hyundai was not able to make the three-point shootout final after scoring just 13 points in the prelims.
Heo Ung of KCC won the event, besting Kim Gookchan of Ulsan Hyundai in the final, 19-13.
