RJ Abarrientos has been a crowd darling and a sensation in the Korean Basketball League which he has taken by storm.
He showed on Saturday why there is merit to the hype surrounding him as he proved instrumental in Ulsan Hyundai Mobis’ bounce back win to raise their record to 2-1.
Abarrientos’ steal against naturalized Korean Ra Gun-ah in the waning seconds of the game keyed Ulsan’s 89-88 victory over Jeonju KCC which was also looking for its second win in three games at Jeonju Gymnasium.
The former FEU Tamaraw sizzled on offense with 21 points, including five triples, but it was his all-around brilliance that was more impressive as he also chalked up eight dimes, three boards, and four steals.
Ethan Alvano and Wonju DB finally picked up their first win of the season as they triumphed over Suwon KT, 81-71.
The former Alab Pilipinas guard scored 11 points which he complemented with five rebounds and six assists to lead his team to a victory in front of their home crowd at Wonju University.
SJ Belangel, however, was not having a good start to his weekend as the Daegu Kogas failed to defend their home floor in a 90-105 loss to Seoul SK.
Belangel was still solid for his team with his contribution of 10 points, but it would not be enough to prevent his squad from falling to their second defeat in three outings.
Rhenz Abando again missed action with an injured hip even as his squad, Anyang KGC, zoomed to the top of the standings with their fourth straight win after defeating Seoul Samsung, 80-79.
