Kai Sotto signs with NBL-Australia’s Adelaide 36ers

Kai Sotto’s next journey will be down south.

The 7-foot-2 Filipino prospect will join the Adelaide 36ers in its campaign in the 2021-22 National Basketball League-Australia campaign.

Sotto, a former G League Ignite prospect, will enter his second elite prospects program.

This was the decision of Sotto as he was declared ineligible for the 2021 NBA Draft as he just graduated from high school a few months ago.

Adelaide chairman Grant Kelley welcomed the Filipino with open arms saying, “We are delighted to welcome Kai, both to the club and the City of Adelaide.

“Attracting a player of Kai’s potential from Asia, and more recently the United States, to Adelaide will only enhance the club’s reputation for identifying and developing elite basketball talent.”

The NBL has been a hotbed for prospects because of this program which was entered by LaMelo Ball two years ago.

Ball played for Illawarra Hawks during the 2019-20 season of the NBL before being selected as the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Adelaide currently sits at seventh place in the league with a 10-14 slate.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the development.
