Kai Sotto has committed to play for the Gilas Pilipinas in the near future, deciding to skip the NBA Summer League.
The 19-year-old big man who played for Adelaide last season went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft.
Sotto’s agent Joel Bell said he already received multiple invites for Summer League but the 7-foot-3 Filipino opted to play for the national team.
“I’ve already gotten several Summer League invites for him but Kai decided to play for the Philippine National Team,” said Bell.
“That’s his commitment, he’s very dedicated toward Filipino activities so he’s gonna pass up Summer League.”
But Sotto, two hours after the interview, took to Twitter to clarify that there’s no decision yet on if he will pass up Summer League.
“Thank you to everyone for your support and kind words tonight, I won’t stop pursuing the dream of being in the NBA…..this is not the end,” said Sotto on his verified Twitter account.
“I also want to clarify that no decision has been made about me not playing in the summer league. My agent misspoke.”
So if he will be in Las Vegas come the Summer League remains to be seen.
The Summer League is slated to start on July 7 and with the championship match scheduled on the 17th.
Back in 2015, Ray Parks applied for the NBA Draft but was undrafted too. He then played for the Dallas Mavericks in the Summer League.
