Last Wednesday, Kai Sotto played his last game for the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eaglets.
The 16-year-old, 7-foot-2 big man announced on Instagram that he will be leaving the country soon to focus on his NBA dream.
“Nakapag-decide na po ako at ang pamilya ko. I’ll be leaving soon to start training full-time,” he announced on his official Instagram account, @KZSotto.
“I want to devote the next two to three years to single-mindedly focus on my goal of joining the NBA by 2021 or 2022.”
Sotto only played in Ateneo for three years, leading the Blue Eaglets to two Finals appearances, including a championship back in the UAAP Season 80 Juniors Basketball Tournament.
If there’s a year that was special for Sotto, it has to be 2018.
During that year, he was able to play in the FIBA U17 World Cup and towed the country to the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup. Moreover, he was also named to the pool of Gilas Pilipinas during the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
But the second generation cager is looking to strengthen his physical form and try to make it to the big league.
“Pinag-isipan ko po ito ng mabuti. I will train hard, sacrifice, and focus in the next few years so that one day you will be proud of me,” he expressed.
“Para po ito sa future ko, ng pamilya ko, at especially po sa Batang Gilas at Gilas Pilipinas!”
