Kacey Dela Rosa barely edged out Josee Kaputu in the UAAP Season 86 Women’s Basketball MVP race.
The sophomore big of Ateneo de Manila University is set to be crowned with the top individual award of the league, ending with 83.857 statistical points — just 1.857 SPs ahead of the Congolese center.
Dela Rosa normed 19.57 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.64 blocks, and 1.5 steals per game.
Meanwhile, Kaputu averaged 21.93 points, 14.5 rebounds, and 1.57 steals per contest.
Joining Dela Rosa and Kaputu in the Women’s Mythical Team are UST’s Kent Pastrana (77.7), Ateneo’s Junize Calago (70.7), and UST’s Tantoy Ferrer (68.5).
Pastrana, the UAAP Season 82 Rookie of the Year when she was still with La Salle, averaged 17.64 points, 5.64 rebounds, 2.29 assists, and 3.0 steals per game.
Calago, on the other hand, put up averages of 14.21 points, 8.36 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.07 steals in the elimination round.
Finally, graduating forward Ferrer scattered 12.0 points, 7.07 rebounds, 2.79 assists, and 2.29 steals per game.
UP’s Favour Onoh ranked fourth in the SP race with 72.7 but due to the league’s rule of foreign student-athletes only composing one per team, only one is allowed entry to the all-UAAP team.
The 18-year-old Nigerian, who graduated from a Philippine high school and is a true freshman, is still set to be crowned as the Rookie of the Year.
The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
