June Mar Fajardo’s injury is worse than expected.
The six-time PBA Most Valuable Player has been diagnosed with a medial collateral ligament (MCL) tear.
San Miguel team manager Gee Abanilla confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times.
“Yes, it’s an MCL injury,” he bared.
Fajardo sustained the injury during the Beermen’s East Asia Super League clash with Ryukyu last March 2.
Checking in midway through the opening frame, Fajardo collided with Golden Kings big man Jack Cooley. It made him miss San Miguel’s game against Anyang KGC.
Moreover, Abanilla said that Fajardo will be out for at least six weeks. In the worst case, he will miss the rest of the ongoing 2023 PBA Governors’ Cup.
San Miguel is currently 7-2 in the standings with two games left in their elimination round campaign. They will face NLEX (7-3) on Wednesday and Rain or Shine (2-8) on Friday.
Fajardo is averaging 14.3 points, 12.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.4 blocks per contest in nine games played this conference.
